I still didn’t finish the curtains for our bedroom, but I did have some small successes over the weekend. First up, if you’ve been following this bedroom project from the beginning, you know how frustrated I’ve become trying to find the perfect table lamps for our bedside tables. A few people reminded me to look on Facebook Market place (which I always forget about), and I immediately found the perfect lamps. Sadly, they had already been sold.
After about two more days of keeping an eye on Marketplace, I finally gave up and purchases two of these ginger jar lamps (affiliate link). I didn’t love the idea of spending just over $100 per lamps when I plan to paint them, but I liked everything else about these lamps — the lampshade, the gold accents, and the ginger jar shape.
After making that purchase, the perfect lamps showed up on Marketplace the very next day. I mean, they’re not quite perfect yet, but they will be. In their current state, the color and finish of the lamp base is all wrong and I really dislike the lamp shade. But all of that can be changed. What I was really interested in is the shape of the lamp base and the potential it has.

While it looks very different from the original lamps that I really wanted (but were way out of my price range), it has the same qualities that will allow me to mimic the design of those original lamps with all of the different “layers” and the middle urn shape. And I was actually pretty excited that the lamp bases were more substantial than the original lamps.

I can’t wait to give these a makeover inspired by those original lamps and see how these turn out. I have high hopes! And the best part is that they were only $40 for the pair. They’re a bit taller than I wanted, but that’s okay. I can adjust the height of the headboard accordingly. I did have to drive to Killeen (an hour away) to get them, but it was well worth it.

I also found the (soon-to-be) perfect side table for the recliner. I had my heart set on a small table with a turned wood spindle look. All of the real wood side tables with turned wood on Amazon looked cheap to me (specifically, the way the spindle screwed together in the middle), so I decided to concentrate more on shape (just like the lamps) instead of material. That’s when I found this cute metal side table (affiliate link).

I love the shape of this table. It took about two minutes to assemble. It comes in black and this cream color. I bought this one because I thought the light color would be easier to cover and customize than the black. Now the challenge is to make this look like light, natural wood. Challenge accepted. 🙂

And finally, I decided to go with the easiest option for my trouble wall that has the breaker box on it. I’m not going to try to hide the fact that the TV is a TV. I’m going to build a frame around it like I’ve done for our previous TVs, but this time instead of painting it white, I’m going to do a natural wood color. And then I’m going to hide the breaker box with a piece of artwork.
I briefly considered making my own artwork, but I ruled that out pretty quickly and decided to find a print that I love from an actual artist. I had my heart set on a landscape, so I set out on my search. I found about ten that I thought would work, and then narrowed down that selection to the following finalists.
The third option was totally different. This colorful abstract print set (a digital download) from Line2Form on Etsy (affiliate link) caught my eye for obvious reasons. I would only be able to use one of them, and I wasn’t sure if it would work because of the dominant fuchsia color since our bedroom has no pinks in it. But artwork doesn’t have to match a room perfectly, so I kept it as a finalist.

This landscape art print from BlackPeonyX on Etsy (affiliate link) also caught my eye. I love the print, but I feared it might lean a little too “southwest” in style. The rug in our bedroom could easily take on that southwest style as well depending on what else goes in the room, and that’s not really a style that I want to lean into. But I kept this as a finalist anyway.

This Texas Landscape print from Hellstrom Prints on Etsy (affiliate link) was initially my favorite, but I was afraid that the overall look might be too dark against the dark teal wallpaper. I was hoping for something with the same colors, but with an overall lighter and brighter look to it. But this one ended up being the runner up.

The final option was this Hidden Spring art print by Mya Bessette on Minted (affiliate link). I’ve followed Mya on Instagram for years now, and I was so excited to find this print on her Minted account that works perfectly with the colors in our bedroom. And it has that overall light, bright look that I was hoping for.

After I narrowed down my favorites, I took my laptop into the bedroom, sat down on the floor so that I could see the wall where the artwork would hang, and I considered all of the options. The first two were way too pastel for the room. With the third option, I found the fuchsia to be way too overpowering. Just as I suspected, the “southwest” print looked even more “southwest” with the rug, so that wasn’t an option. That left me with the final two, and naturally, I went with the lighter and brighter option. I ordered the print and paid for rush shipping, and it should be here today!
It’s going to be pretty big. It has to be in order to cover the breaker box while also hanging high enough to be proportional to the framed TV. Since it’ll be so big, I’ve abandoned the idea of hanging it on hinges. It will be much easier to hang it on a French cleat so that it can be quickly and easily removed from the wall when I need to access the breaker box.
So all of the little details are coming together, but at the same time, I’ve created a few more (small) project for myself. That’s okay, though. I’m to the fun part on this bedroom project, and part of the fun is the creating and customizing. I’m really excited to see all of these smaller projects come together.
